I refactor software — and teams — to scale.

I'm a technical leader with a long history in software across private and public sectors — from startups and top marketing agencies to enterprises, retail chains, and county government. I've worked full stack across the entire SDLC, from planning to production, and scaled code and infrastructure from tens to millions of concurrent users. Today I run R5 Industries, the IT department for small local businesses — building their web presence, setting up the right business software, and keeping the tech running so owners can focus on their trade.

I'm the founder and Principal Technology Consultant of R5 Industries, the tech partner for Phoenix-area auto shops, restaurants, barbers, plumbers, and other owner-run businesses that are too busy, or too small, to hire IT staff. I'm also a former VP of Product Engineering at Sperse, a centralized growth platform for sales, services, and subscription businesses.

Before that, I spent years in the trenches: heading the Vehicle API and vehicle pages as a Merchandising developer at Carvana, architecting high-traffic promotions for Fortune 500 brands, and leading teams as a contractor for PetSmart and Maricopa County. I was lead developer on the pipeline safety digitization project for the Arizona Corporation Commission, lead architect of eGov for the Maricopa County Treasurer's Office, and team lead for a new PetSmart loyalty program that needed integrations across several systems. Earlier, at Lavidge in 2014, I worked on the Arizona Commerce Authority website and its LinkedIn integrations, the Valley Youth Theatre website, and TestFit, a real estate feasibility platform.

Learning new technology and staying on the bleeding edge is my passion. Over my career I've picked up languages and frameworks from ActionScript to Xamarin, and shipped console apps, desktop apps (WinForms, WPF), mobile apps (Xamarin, Android), web apps (MVC, Angular, Vue), and static sites (Gatsby, Next.js, Scully, and now Astro).

• R5 Industries (2019–present): I build and manage websites, Google and Apple Maps profiles, social presence, and local search ads for owner-run businesses, set up tools like Square POS, invoicing, scheduling, and email, and keep the tech running. I bring in trusted specialists for larger projects and use AI-assisted tools to keep work fast and affordable.
• Sperse (2022), VP of Product Engineering: I managed remote development teams across time zones and owned the roadmaps, infrastructure, and architecture for every Sperse product, reviewing KPIs and operating costs to find improvements across the SDLC.
• Contract architect and team lead (2018–2022): I led architecture for new eGovernment services for Maricopa County with Azure AD B2C and .NET APIs, digitized government inspection forms in Angular, and built tooling to import more than 100,000 federal and state safety codes into a relational database. At PetSmart, I led the services team behind PODS with Azure Functions, Service Bus messaging, and Salesforce integrations, led a team of five on a .NET Core API behind Azure API Management, and was team lead for a new loyalty program that needed integrations across several systems. I mentored interns and junior developers throughout.
• VincentBenjamin (2014, 2017–2018): As senior enterprise architect, I built the APIs, reporting, and tooling behind high-traffic promotions for Fortune 500 brands including T-Mobile. Those services handled over 5 million concurrent requests. I led a multi-cloud move across AWS and Azure and converted the codebase from ASP.NET MVC to ASP.NET Core so it could run on Linux.
• Carvana (2016–2017), Merchandising Engineer: I architected the VehicleAPI behind vehicle detail pages and the mobile apps, cutting page loads from 12 seconds to milliseconds. I also broke monolithic codebases into independently deployable microservices and shipped features to move KPIs.
• POSitive Technology (2015–2016): I led the team building a new mobile point-of-sale system, moved it from Cordova to Xamarin on MvvmCross, and integrated printers, barcode scanners, VFD displays, and cash drawers. I also moved the team from TFS to Git and set up CI/CD to ship to the app stores.
• Lavidge (2014): I built the Arizona Commerce Authority website and its LinkedIn integrations and the Valley Youth Theatre website, and worked on TestFit, a real estate feasibility platform, along with other client projects.

I studied computer programming at Mesa Community College and earned an AAS with High Distinction.

I started coding in high school with QBasic, picked up Java soon after, and then discovered C# and .NET, which was my main stack for years. Since then I've branched out into Angular, TypeScript, React, Python, Go, Rust, Astro, Svelte, and more.

In the mid-to-late 2000s I was deep in the Windows customization, slipstreaming, and unattended installation scenes. I created the logon screen replacement for XPize, an XP modding project that updated old Windows 98 leftovers to the XP look, and shared custom WindowBlinds themes and logon screens on MSFN and DeviantArt.

That world led to Seven Update, my solo open-source project: a universal software updater with a Windows 7-style interface that kept apps current years before Chocolatey or winget existed. Development began on SVN, and the first commit on GitHub landed in June 2009. The project is now archived.

Separately, I was active in the phpBB community, where I designed styles, including Bl@ck, a popular phpBB theme, and built Seven MOD Installer, a .NET Framework desktop app that automated installing any phpBB MOD before AutoMOD existed. I still answer hard front-end integration questions on Stack Overflow, mostly about ASP.NET, JavaScript, and C#.

Open source has been a constant. I contribute to a range of projects, including OrcaSlicer, and I regularly run nightly and beta builds of the software I use so I can report bugs before they reach everyone else.

I'm an active member of the 3D printing community. I optimize models for gaming peripherals and hardware organization, and I've had printer profiles merged upstream. I care about digital privacy, so I keep my public presence focused on code, architecture, and helping engineering teams grow.
